The town of Bocas del Toro is laid out like a grid; the main street (Calle 3ª) carries virtually all the

Bocas del Toro is bordered to the north by
the Caribbean Sea, by
Veraguas to the east, Chiriquí to the south, and Costa Rica to the west. The main islands are Colón, Popa, Bastimentos, Cristòbal, Cayo de Agua and Cayo Carenero.
The town of Bocas is located on Isla Colón, the largest and most important of
the group of islands that form the archipelago, at the mouth of the lagoon of
Chiriquí. Isla Colón and Bastimentos are the only ones that offer hotels,
restaurants and bars; in addition, Isla Colón hosts all the tour operators
specialising in ecological tourism.
The islands (covered largely by forest) are surrounded by wonderful
emerald-coloured seas – hence the name Veraguas coined by Columbus, a
contraction of verdes aguas, green waters – which are home to splendid
coral reefs and a fantastically rich sub-marine world, the stuff of dreams for
the world’s subaqua divers..

- travel by air from Panama City, David and Changuinola
- travel by bus from Panama City to David, from David to Chiriqui
Grande and Almirante, and from here by taxi-boat or ferry to the town of Bocas
- travel by boat from Changuinola, across the border from Costa Rica and Almirante
